Be Effective, Not Busy

Sometimes, I catch myself buzzing around like a busy bee—doing this, doing that—but by the end of the day, I realize I’ve been busy without actually being effective.
That’s a trap we’ve got to watch out for: staying in motion just so we can say, “I’m busy.”
But here’s the truth—we need to challenge ourselves. Ask yourself honestly:
“Is what I’m doing right now truly effective, or just keeping me busy?”
Success doesn't come from motion alone. It comes from strategy. We’ve got to be intentional about how we spend our time.
And let’s break a myth while we’re at it: You don’t need to be negotiating mergers or making huge money moves to be considered productive.
What really matters—how you govern your life, your time, your family, and your walk with God—that’s what makes the biggest difference. That’s the real work, and it deserves your best time and attention.
Managing your time and expectations should be a daily practice.
We’ve got to stop glorifying being “busy” and start looking for ways to work smarter, not just harder.
Let me tell you—this was a slow lesson for me, but now I can’t live without it:
Laying out my clothes and prepping my lunch the night before.
I know, I know—it might sound small or even silly. But these little hacks save me time, reduce stress, and help me start my day with purpose. That extra 10–15 minutes in the morning? Game-changer.
So let’s commit to being effective with our time, not just “busy.”
Let’s map out our lives, be intentional with our plans, and focus on what truly moves us forward.
The next time “busy” comes knocking, tell it:
“Sorry, no time for you—I’m too focused on being effective.”
